Fourteen years since the initial renovation of the basement of La Pedrera de Caixa Catalunya, a second renovation was embarked upon in July 2007 and was completed in October 2008.
Caixa Catalunya's Social Work has improved the facilities and services of this space, bringing it in line with new requirements and addressing the needs of the varied activities that take place here.
The renovation was also intended to highlight the initial layout of the basement, which was originally used as an innovative garage and stables for carriages and automobiles, and showcase the structure itself by exposing the original materials (stone, brick and steel) and the geometry of the ceiling beams, which are particularly unique in the Gaudí Hall, where the architect designed an innovative metallic structure made from two cylindrical, concentric struts stretched across radial beams, reminiscent of a bicycle wheel.
