Àneu valleys emblematic traditions and fiestas have been preserved, amongst which are the Falles d’Isil, a fiesta characteristic of the night of San Juan and declared as one that is to be preserved, by the Generalitat de Catalunya in 1991; and the Armats and the Veïnats d’Esterri d’Àneu, in which the neighbours evoke the tradition of the L’Octava del Corpus celebration and relax for eight days.
A good chance to enjoy some open-air entertainment is provided by the Dansàneu Festival, held since 1992 and which for a few days turns the Àneu valleys into the centre of Catalan dance and culture. |

The Àneu Valleys are home to some important artistic and architectural heritage, especially in the case of Romanesque structures: castles, bridges, churches and hermitages, built in a style of medieval architecture characterised by austerity and serenity.
Son town itself is one example of this, a collection of Romanesque pieces of architecture in which the presence of the parish church of Sant Just i Sant Pastor, which draws together historical liturgical features and a gothic altarpiece from the 15th century, is striking.
In Esterri d'Àneu sits the Ecomuseu museum of the Àneu valleys, which runs a set of visits to various heritage centres in the land. Of note are the Casa Gassia, the hydraulic sawmill of Alòs d'Isil, the set of monuments of Son and the Benedictine monastery of Sant Pere del Burgal d'Escaló (12th century).
Jou, Sorpe, Borén and many other villages have preserved a rich cultural heritage which offers a range of attractions to visitors.
Now outside of the area, two hours in the car around the Bonaigua pass, is the set of Romanesque buildings of Boí Taüll, which has been declared world heritage by UNESCO.
