Below is the equipment that CatalunyaCaixa’s Nature Centre recommends you should bring with you in order to enjoy its activities more and in comfort. Please note, however, that this list is a guideline. If anyone does not have this equipment, and depending on the case, it will have to be decided whether it is advisable that it should be bought.
It is not necessary to bring sheets as each bed at the Centre has a duvet and towels.
- Backpack for hiking (30 litres)
It must be comfortable and adjustable to your back with a capacity of approximately 30 litres. To give you an idea of the size required, remember that on whole-day trips it will need to hold a lunch box 20 cm in diameter and warm clothes for the entire day.
If you have children aged under 2, we recommended you carry them on your back in a baby carrier during outdoor activities.
Footwear should be comfortable yet practical. The best kind is mountain boots with a high upper to support your ankles to avoid sprains. Try not to wear new boots for the first time on the day of the walk as you may get foot sores from rubbing. Don’t wear thin soled and/or cloth training shoes.
Remember that the Centre is 1,540 metres above sea level and the weather can be variable. We recommend you bring a thick sweater or thin fleece in summer and thicker warm clothes in winter.
Apart from protecting you against rain or snow, a waterproof jacket provides good insulation against the wind.
- Sunglasses, sunscreen and hat
Sunglasses protect you from ultraviolet radiation, and up in the high mountains UV ray emission is much more pronounced. The recommended sunscreen would be factor 20 or higher in cases of very sensitive skin. You must also wear a hat or cap in the hottest months of the year to protect your head from direct sunlight to avoid sunstroke.
You need to keep your body hydrated when walking, which means you will need to make sure you take this very basic item with you.
During the night-time activities we will move around outside the school so a torch will come in handy. However, it is not essential.
We also recommend you bring a camera and binoculars.
