     (Barcelona Science Park) in three spheres: expansion of facilities and support for the specialised scientific services unit, promotional activities geared towards the scientific community and support lend to activities to promote science culture.

The Conocimiento y Desarrollo (CYD) Foundation and Caixa Catalunya's Social Work organised a workshop in November 2008 in Barcelona, which was called "Businesspeople, Universities and Innovation. Two Benchmark Experiences: The Corporación Tecnológica de Andalucía and Innobasque".
 
The need for businesses and universities to strengthen their links to become motors of development in society in the fields of innovation and knowledge was highlighted at this workshop.
 
The General Manager of Caixa Catalunya, Adolf Todó, highlighted in his speech the importance of investing in initiatives that promote interaction among businesses, universities and innovation, as "it is a very important sector that needs a boost to be key in the economy of Spain". Todó explained that "Caixa Catalunya is fully committed and promotes links between universities and companies, research, technological development and innovation through its research, development and innovation programme to support all the initiatives included in this area, which are currently being disregarded". Todó encouraged businesspeople and researchers to "search for opportunities to work together" to "set an example and open new lines of discussion which will materialise in concrete projects".
 
Ana Patricia Botín, chairwoman of the CYD Foundation, closed the event. Caixa Catalunya, whose Social Work co-organised the event, recently joined the CYD Foundation's Board of Trustees.

Càtedra Antoni Serra i Ramoneda (UAB)

  • The 'Antoni Serra Ramoneda Researgh Chair' belonging to the UAB's Faculty of Economics and Business Studies , is the fruit of the cooperation between Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and Caixa Catalunya.



    The main objective of the Chair is to promote research in the fields of business and economics, whether this is on an organisational, financial, trading or production front. For this reason, it supports the production of publications and preparation of a host of research activities, such as the collaboration with other researchers and research centres, the organisation of conferences and workshops, and helps make it possible for seminars to be held and promotes the production of doctoral theses in cooperation with the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies and the Grup d'Eficiència i Competitivitat Empresarial (Business Efficiency and Competitiveness Group).
